Smuggling, and ofcourse a track called Wa Do
Dom: Eek A Mouse has his own special kind of
way of voicing. Born as Ripton Jospeh Hylton
in 1957, he started voicing in the mid
1970's under his own name. It was then, that
he was about to develop his own style as Eek
A Mouse.
Somewhere in between toasting
("Reggae Rapping") and singing,
his particular style gained him popularity
lasting even to this day where youths are
discovering him once again, decades later.
Even youths who are not specifically into
Reggae Music can be attracted to what he was
doing in that early 1980's.
The music is rub a dub style, that is
early dancehall. And back in 1981, when this
video was shot, rub a dub music was hot and
fresh. This means, that the video on this
page is a report directly from the early
days of rub a dub.
Don't expect a lot of conscious material,
though. Sure, like every self respecting
artist Eek A Mouse did quite a lot of
conscious tracks (Hitler, Good Friday, Ganja
Smuggling), but he predominantly deals with
the interaction between male and female.
Which in itself needs some consciousness as
well.
Anyway, let's take a look at the Mouse.
And when you're finished, why not visit the
