Winston Rodney aka Burning Spear stands
at the top when it comes to longtime Reggae
artists performing live on stage on a
worldwide basis. He has his own label
and basically is an independant artist, as
the title of one of his many albums goes:
Freeman.
His
musical skills and conscious motivations
form a combination which enables him to do
what he does best. He also puts his actions
where his words are, as he used his success
to create social projects on the island of
Jamaica, where he was born.
It's like the Spear is never tired.
Decade after decade after decade, he keeps
recording albums and going on world tours.
Decade after decade after decade, he keeps
appealing to a new generation of music
lovers.
Take this concert, at the French
Zenith in the year 1988. A remarkable
concert, a welcome exception in a time where
it seemed like Reggae Music was going
through a very dry period. A skillfull
band performs a supertight backing for
Spear's lyrics and conga playing.
Fortunately, it has been recorded.
Digitally, on a 48 track recorder. And
released: in both audio and video. (Click
