Mikey Dread and UB40 - Roots and Culture (1983)
This
is an unexpected combination, that will
surely drive the attention of everyone who
knows either Mikey Dread or UB40. The year
is 1983, and the British band UB40 (who
named themselves after an unemployment card)
was coming up strong with their special kind
of Reggae. Mikey Dread was already an
established name in Reggae, as he ruled the
Jamaican airwaves with his Radio show
"Dread at the Controls".
"Roots and Culture" is one of
Mikey Dread's tracks, and the UB40
performance of this particular riddim goes
very well. There's one time where Mikey
chants "Drum and bass", but the
keyboard player continues still. that is a
thing which you can see often during live
concerts, but it is the only minor point in
this excellent performance.
