CONTEMPORARY ROOTS |
|
Who says "Roots", says
"Foundational". And when it comes to Reggae
Music, many people refer to Jamaican Reggae Music of the
1970's and before. But they are only partly right with
that. It is true, that Reggae Music originated in
Jamaica. But the Roots has gone outernational!
Reggae Music is more type of rhythm then a style of
music. And when the music is played in the right rhythm,
that is Roots Music. For the Roots is the rhythm of
Reggae Music.

| VARIOUS
- REAL REGGAE ROOTS |
| A
great title for a great compilation. For
many people think that Roots Reggae is a
music from back in the 1970's. This album
will change that idea. Roots grow, you
know... |
|
|
 |
| VARIOUS
- Rockers For The Most High |
| Not
everyone will apprecilove the sound on this
album. Rockers and Rub a Dub with some of
the best singers (Michael Prophet!), but
mixed excessively with the use of all kinds
of phaser-like effects and you really got to
be in a certain state before you digging
just what's happening on the album. |

 |
| WOOD
IN DI FIRE - OFF THE HOOK |
| This
German collective definitely deserves some
attention, especially when you like
improvised styles of playing by skillfull
musicians. Nuff horns, and good vibes. |

| YABBY
YOU - FLEEING FROM THE CITY |
| Yabby
You started releasing music back in the
1970's. This album contains some music from
the early 1990's. The music is clean, the
message is strong, and especially the track
"Praise Jahoviah" is recommended. |
|
|
 |
| YABBY
YOU MEETS MAD PROFESSOR |
| The
Original Jesus Dread meets the Mad Professor
and Black Steel in a collection of Ariwa
riddims voice with some of the wizest words
of the year. Especially the version of
"Stylistic Dreadlocks" is a
must-have. |

 |
| YAMI
BOLO - WONDERS AND SIGN |
| Who
said, that the best Reggae vocalists did
their best work back in the 1970's? It can't
be anyone who ever heard of Yami Bolo. A
great vocalist, singing in the style of
Junior Reid! |
|
|
 |
| YAMI
BOLO - BORN AGAIN |
| The
1990's. A new generation of Dancehall and
Roots vocalists of which Yami Bolo was one
strong part. His skills and talents resemble
that of Junior Reid and yet it's much
different. |
|
|
 |
| YAMI
BOLO - FIGHTING FOR PEACE |
| Twelve
upfull riddims, sometimes mixed with a slice
of DUB, and Yami Bolo's voice on top of it.
Originally released in 1994, this one is a
nice one still. |
