DIFFERENT BOARDS
There are several Message Boards here, and because
they are all different in nature, they require a
different form of "behaviour", if you
will, too. In other words, you do not place an
in-depth reasoning concerning a Bible verse in a
forum aimed at producing (DUB) Reggae Music.
Of course, there are many over-laps. And most of
the visitors/readers of the Dubroom show to be
interested in almost everything presented on the
site, blogs and fora. But still, if only for the
oversight, please take some consideration of the
topic of the board you want to post your topic.
DIFFERENT KIND OF POSTINGS
Next to the fact that there are differe fora,
there are also different kinds of postings. For
the Babylon Observer and CRC fora it might happen
that you want to talk about a certain news item,
for example. In the Reggae forum, you might want
to embed a video you really like. Contributing to
a reasoning is yet another kind of posting.
FORWARDING
A general rule is, that you can only forward an
item from another website if you want to start a
discussion about it. It will be appreciloved if
you add at least a few comments to the item,
preferably by posting the item and subesequently
replying to it yourself.
Here is the official text:
§
107. Limitations on exclusive rights: Fair use
Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106
and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work,
including such use by reproduction in copies or
phonorecords or by any other means specified by
that section, for purposes such as criticism,
comment, news reporting, teaching (including
multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship,
or research, is not an infringement of
copyright. In determining whether the use made
of a work in any particular case is a fair use
the factors to be considered shall include-
(1) the purpose and character of the use,
including whether such use is of a commercial
nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
(2) the nature of the copyrighted work;
(3) the amount and substantiality of the portion
used in relation to the copyrighted work as a
whole; and
(4) the effect of the use upon the potential
market for or value of the copyrighted work.
The fact that a work is unpublished shall not
itself bar a finding of fair use if such finding
is made upon consideration of all the above
factors.
Please do not think that this give anyone the
right to do just about anything. It does give us
the freedom to talk about things and provide
documentation.
EMBEDDING VIDEO
When you like a certain musical video, or
when you would like the Dubroom to write/publish a
review about it, you might like to put it in sa
posting in the Reggae Fourm. Especially when you
yourself are an artist/promotor, the Dubroom
encourages you to use the Reggae Forum to drive
attention to your works.
It would definitely be appriciloved if you also
write a few comments to the item you want to embed
in your posting. Just some words, why you like it.
When you're a promoter, additional information
about the artist would be appriciloved and used in
possible Dubroom reviews.
REASONING
Especially in the Reasonings forum, as well as the
CRC and Babylon Observer Messageboards, serious
things are the usual topic. From the spiritual to
world affairs and so on. Because of the sensitive
nature of these topics, a certain maturity is
assumed.
Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing, but it
requires a mutual respect. This respect is not so
much in swallowing your opinnion, the respect is
in the fact that we take speech for what it is.
In the Reasonings board, more personal matters can
also be talked about. Especially in that case, a
certain maturity is required.
WHERE IS THE MODERATOR?
Many boards have a legion of moderators who
participate in the discussions. They are
prominently displayed as such and often you can
see in the nature of these boards that there is a
certain hierarchy. With an "elite" being
displayed as "moderator", like a police,
and others who are "mere members".
The Dubroom chooses a different approach. The
Dubroom Message Boards are not actively moderated,
and when the Dubroom Webmaster (that would be me)
participates in discussions and so on, this is
done from another account with no moderation
capacities.
It is assumed, that you respect the nature of the
Dubroom and that you are simply interested in
participating in one or more Message Boards. And
you are very welcome, also when you have
perspectives and opinnions that are not the same
as that of the Dubroom and/or Dubroom Webmaster.
It is possible, though, that moderation is
required.
A very innocent form of moderation is putting a
posting in a different board. For example, someone
posts a promotion of his works in the Studio
Dubroom and since a promotion is for Reggae
Listeners rather than producers, the promo might
be moved to the Reggae Forum.
It can also happen, that someone enters the
Message Boards just to start fussing and fighting,
bullying other members or more of such nastiness.
In that case, a member will be warned privately
and after three warnings (s)he is automatically
banned. In case a member is banned, this will be
announced on the Dubroom Message Boards and the
reason(s) will be provided with the announcement
too.
Items for the Babylon Observer and the CRC
websites/weblogs will be posted under accounts
named "Babylon Observer" and
"CRC". (DUB) Reggae reviews for the
Dubroom website/weblogs will also be placed in the
appropriate Message Boards, but from the account
that also this article was posted from.
DUBROOM WEBMASTER AND/OR MESSIAN DREAD?
The Dubroom is for the most part the work of the
Dubroom Webmaster, Messian Dread. Still, I have
decided to also make an account for myself that
has no administration and/or moderation
capacities. I don't just do this for the obvious
symbolica reason of equality and freedom of
expression for all, I also do it for myself.
When I write for the Dubroom, I write as a writer.
Reviews require a different style and approach,
articles/reviews for the CRC and Babylon OBserver
require yet another style. I have no problem with
this myself, but it does gag me a bit for the
Message Boards.
I like to give my own point of view, too. I do not
always give my own point of view when I write
articles for the Dubroom, especially not when it
comes to musical reviews. I mean, I cannot allow
my opinnions to be applied when selecting music to
review, for example.
